‘크랙 레드먼’과 ‘칼 마이어’는 대학에서 처음 만나 2011년에 일러스트레이터 듀오 ‘크랙 앤 칼’ 을 결성 하였습니다. 그들은 주거지가 뉴욕과 런던, 각각 다른 도시로 멀리 떨어지게 되었어도 변함없는 오랜 친구이자 창의적 협력자로 함께 하고 있습니다. 오랜 공동 작업을 해오며 개발된 그들만의 시각적 언어를 사용하여 꾸준히 좋은 작품과 탄탄한 팀워크를 보여주고 있습니다.

크랙 앤 칼의 작품은 파리의 광고 박물관, 아테네의 오나시스 문화센터, 상해의 류하이수 미술관, 뉴욕의 움직이는 이미지 박물관, 멕시코 현대 미술관 등 세계 각지에서 전시 되었습니다. 이 외에 대표적으로 콜레트, LVMH, 애플, 구글, 테이트 모던, 워싱턴 포스트, 더 뉴요커, 뉴욕 타임즈, 나이키 등과 협업을 했습니다.

일러스트레이션과 설치 작업을 위주로 선보이며 ‘근본적인 것’에 초점을 두고 사물과 풍경을 단순하면서 대담하게 디자인합니다. 굵고 둥근 선으로 만든 형태에 다채로운 색을 조합해 채우고, 친숙한 얼굴이나 익숙한 모양에 특유의 냉소적인 위트를 결합하거나 아예 다른 상징적인 이미지로 바꾸기도 합니다.

이번 전시에서는 크랙 앤 칼의 대담한 색상과 기하학적인 형태와 그래픽 패턴, 그리고 이를 같은 맥락으로 다양한 형태와 스케일의 조형물, 설치, 프린트, 페인팅 원화 등으로 형상화한 작업을 모아 몰입도 있게 소개합니다. 잠실 에비뉴엘 아트홀, 롯데갤러리 광복점(부산), 에브리데이 몬데이 갤러리, 세 곳에서 각기 다른 작품들이 전시됩니다.

Craig Redman and Karl Maier first met during their university years in 2011. The two started an artist duo 'Craig & Karl'. Despite their long distance bet- ween the two different cities, New York and London, they continued their friendship and creative collaboration. They have worked together for a long time and developed their own visual language. Using this unique visual language, the two artists show strong and consistent artworks and teamwork.

They've exhibited work across the world including at the Musée de la Publicité, (Paris), Onassis Cultural Centre (Athens), Liu Hais Art Museum (Shanghai) and the Museum of the Moving Image (New York). They have worked on projects with LVMH, Nike, Apple, Google, Tate Modern, Vogue, The Washington Post, The New Yorker and The New York Times.

Craig & Karl mainly work with illust- ration and installation in bold and minimal visualization, designing objects and landscape with the focus on their 'fundamental elements'. They create various shapes with thick to curvy lines and a broad range of colors, at times adding familiar faces or shapes with cynical wit and at times shifting to other symbolic imageries.

In this exhibition, Craig & Karl present a collection of works materialized in various forms and scale from sculp- tures, installation, prints to paintings in keeping with their bold colors, geometric forms and graphic patterns. The works will be presented at Jamsil Avenuel Art Hall, Lotte Gallery in Gwangbok (Busan), and Everyday Mooonday Gallery.
